It is our nature, our instinctual response to avoid the difficulty of confrontation. Some ignore this internal pull-back, this filter between our psyche and reality, and they may be considered, at the best, brave, or, at the worst, insane. But the hesitation exists in all. Most of us will go to such great lengths to avoid the discomfort that the act of avoidance itself is far more difficult than the alternative. Slowly, small pieces of our will are lost, forgotten, made extinct until we are pacified. Left are only the echoes of our ethos. This is the whimper that once was the bang.
