Thought for Food (The AI Diet)

AI is eating the books.

Seriously, look it up.

There are also bills in progress to legalize nationwide bans.

But if you’re surprised that our creativity and entertainment are being chewed into slop to be regurgitated, looking like the gross kids’ tray at grade school lunch when he mixes all of his leftover food together and pretends it’s vomit, you haven’t been paying much attention. We’ve been doing this without AI for a very long time. The entertainment and publishing industries have been championing this obnoxious repetition of ideas and reimaginings of once great creative accomplishments since, well, probably longer than any of us have been alive. I’m not saying that it makes what’s happening good. I think it’s absolutely horrifying. I think it’s a goddamn Bradbury-ian, 451, fucking nightmare, but it has been obscenely popular. People eat it right up, and that’s why, while it was bad before, this will no doubt make it exponentially worse because AI will make it far more prolific and easily accomplished. I think we’re already seeing that people will take to it with no reservation.

It’s not artistry; it’s plagiarism. It’s not being influenced by the greats in writing and film and music; it’s shamelessly aping the work of others. It’s not homage; it’s the synthesized product of the data and metrics of our behavior that we’ve willingly fed into the guts of a machine that is stripping humanity and art of its dignity in the name of marketability.

My indie publishing company, Dead Star Press, is just about to release a new book from Beau Montana. Here’s a sneak peek at the cover. If AI eats this book, it’ll fuck it up real good. I’ll let you know when we have a release date. If you’d like to read some of Beau Montana’s work ahead of his new book release, find his blog right here- Beau Montana The Internet Ruined Everything. Until then, be sure to check out the Dead Star Press Online Shop for all of our other titles, and buy some for the sake of posterity before the AI monsters eat them all.

I’ve also started posting some of the cooler books I’ve been reselling on eBay. There are only a few right now, but I will post more soon.
